Uncle Larry was a great influencer throughout my childhood and teens. I gained invaluable knowledge and learnt an awful lot from him about the way things work and the logic behind them - for instance steam locomotives,- oh how he loved them and how proud he was of his train set which he had built. He would go on about how the first American designed and built steam locomotive Tom Thumb was better than any English built one in 1830. He was ever the patriotic American and whenever there were troubles in world economic crisis or unrest in the world, he would say, "my boys and Uncle Sam gonna get them!" He introduced me to his wonderful set of Britannica encyclopaedia books and started my thirst for knowledge. You could ask him a question and he would know the answer. He was the smartest man I knew. For the 30 years or so that I've known him since I was a little girl and after I moved away in my early 20s, we have stayed in touch and the many strange, wonderful and weird conversations and emails exchanged over the years have been many highlights and important to me. I shall miss these dearly. He was a great Popps to Steph and he loved her so and she adored him. They were both wonderful together and had a special closeness. I am also grateful that he gave us Randy and that we got to know him too and celebrate his life. He was very much loved and respected in Singapore and had impacted people in many good ways through his kindness, humour and down to earth character. Uncle Larry was just himself and straight up. His legacy will continue to live through us and we will honour his memory always. I am glad the pain is over for him and he is at rest now. Thank you for being the father figure to me and I'm so very happy that you got to meet Paul too. May God bless your soul.
