Obituary for Ottus Boyd

Ottus Lavaughn Boyd stepped into eternity on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the age of 96 years old.

Ottus was born in Moran, Texas on May 1, 1921, to Tycus and Katie Teel Boyd. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by four sisters, Beulah Watson, Bertha Wallum, Norma Lee Wallum, and Leveta Scott, and by three brothers, Jewell Boyd, Theo Boyd, and Raymond Boyd.

He married Dorothy Cryer Boyd on Christmas Day, 1938. She preceded him in death in 2010 after 71 years of marriage. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and traveled to Guam, Hawaii, the Philippines, Japan, and Iwo Jima. He moved to Lake J. B. Thomas near Snyder in 1958 when he built Boyd Lodge. He later worked at the American Magnesium plant and then was the greeter at Walmart for a number of years.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gaylon and Deborah Boyd, and a daughter and son-in-law, Twila and Joe Liles, all of Snyder, and by four grandchildren, Samantha Campbell (Fairview), Ben Boyd (McKinney), Matt Boyd (Leander), and April Boyd (Frisco), and by eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday from 6:00-7:00 at Miller Family Funeral Home. Services will be held at 37th Street Church of Christ in Snyder on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11:00. A graveside service will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens.
