Obituary for Richard West

Richard Dean West, 73, a long time resident of Scurry County and Snyder, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Mr. West was being treated for partially clotted arteries and succumbed to a stroke and kidney failure.

Visitation for the family will be Sunday evening at 6:00 until 8:00 at Miller Funeral Home. Gravesite rites will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Lone Wolf Cemetery with Rev. Danny Menges officiating.

Mr. West was born on July 31, 1943 in Ballinger, Texas to Lee and Zonell (Brannon) West. He attended school in Snyder.

In 1960 he joined the U.S. Navy with his friend, Marvin Hardy. He served for over five years on the USS Sperry and was stationed in California and Hawaii. After his service, he began working with his parents in the painting contractor business. Richard was known and respected by many in the Snyder and surrounding area for beautifying many homes and businesses.

Mr. West is survived by, one son, David West of Snyder, three daughters, Becky Watson and husband Terry of Haskell, Texas, Renee Valdez and husband Gilbert of Alvarado, Texas, Regina Dominges-Pantga and husband Fredrico, of Venus, Texas. He has twelve grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Mr. West is also survived by five sisters, Barbara Brissette and husband Joseph of Kernersville, N.C., Linda Hodge of Burleson, Texas, Rhonda Clark and husband Wayne of Glen Rose, Texas, Sharon Gregory and husband Larry of San Angelo, Texas, Wilma Tate and husband Kenneth of Victoria, Texas. One sister in-law, Rev. LaVeta Munson and husband Rev. Ron of Independence, MO. A long time companion and best friend, Faye West of Snyder, Texas.

Mr. West was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Thomas Mitchell West, James Leroy West, and Rev. Sidney Charles West.

He was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
